Neighbour NL ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can access or correct it.

By using the Neighbour NL platform ("the Platform"), you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy.

Payment Information

  • Payment card details (processed and stored by our payment provider — we do not store full card numbers)
  • Bank account information (for Workers, collected by our payment provider)

Identity Verification (Workers)

  • Government-issued identification (collected by our payment provider as required)

Usage Information

  • Job postings and history
  • Ratings and reviews
  • Messages between Customers and Workers
  • Device and browser information
  • IP address and general location

3. Why We Collect This Information

We collect and use your personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account;
  • Connect Customers with Workers;
  • Process payments and transfers;
  • Verify identity as required by our payment provider;
  • Facilitate job postings, claims, and completions;
  • Display ratings and reviews;
  • Communicate with you about your account, jobs, and platform updates;
  • Detect and prevent fraud or misuse of the Platform;
  • Comply with legal obligations;
  • Improve the Platform and user experience.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

Other Users — Your name, general location, and ratings are visible to other users as part of the Platform's functionality. Workers' profiles are visible to Customers posting jobs.

Payment Providers — We use a third-party payment processor (such as Stripe) to handle payments. Your payment information is shared with and governed by that provider's privacy policy.

Service Providers — We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Platform (e.g., hosting, analytics, email delivery). These providers are contractually required to protect your information.

Legal Requirements — We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Neighbour NL, our users, or the public.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention requirements) by contacting us.

6. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Payment information is handled by our payment provider using industry-standard encryption and security practices.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable breach of security safeguards regulations.

Notification will be provided as soon as feasible after we determine that a reportable breach has occurred. We maintain a record of all security breaches involving personal information, regardless of whether notification is required.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal obligations);
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

9. Photo and User Content Consent

By uploading photos or other content to the Platform — including job photos, completion photos, and profile images — you consent to Neighbour NL storing and displaying that content on the Platform for the purposes of facilitating job transactions, verifying completion, and displaying public worker profiles.

Photos uploaded in connection with a job may be visible to the other party involved in that transaction and to Neighbour NL administrators. Worker profile photos may be visible to all Platform users. You should not upload photos that contain sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary for the job.

10. Cookies and Tracking

The Platform may use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember preferences, and analyze usage. You can control cookie settings through your browser, though disabling cookies may affect Platform functionality.

11. Third-Party Services and Links

The Platform integrates with third-party services (such as our payment processor, Stripe) and may contain links to external websites. These third parties have their own privacy policies, and Neighbour NL is not responsible for their privacy practices or the content of their sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use in connection with the Platform.

12. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18 without guardian involvement as described in the Worker Agreement. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors independently. If we become aware that a minor has provided us with personal information outside of the supervised teen worker registration process, we will delete it promptly.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Policy on the Platform and updating the effective date. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.

14. Applicable Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the laws of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
