Head to the Become a Worker page and fill out your details — name, email, date of birth, and the services you want to offer.
After registering, you'll be redirected to Stripe Express to set up your payout account. This is how you get paid — Stripe handles all the money securely.
Once your Stripe account is set up, add a Canadian Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit card to unlock instant payouts. Without one, payments arrive in 2–5 business days.
Go to your Worker Dashboard and browse available jobs. When you see one that fits, hit Claim Job. The customer's contact info will be visible once you claim.
Complete the job, then mark it done in your dashboard. For physical jobs (snow clearing, lawn care, cleaning, etc.) you must upload at least one completion photo.
After you mark a job complete, the customer has 24 hours to raise a concern. If they don't, payment is automatically released to you.
Once payment is released, funds are transferred to your Stripe Express account and an instant payout is triggered to your debit card — usually within minutes.
Stripe will ask some questions that sound like they're meant for a big business. Don't worry — here's exactly what to enter as a Neighbour NL worker.
Stripe asks:
"Are you a business or an individual?"
Choose Individual / Sole proprietor.
You are not a company — you're a person doing local jobs. "Individual" is the right choice.
Stripe asks:
"What type of business is this? / What industry are you in?"
Select "Home Services" or "Landscaping & Gardening" — whichever fits best.
Pick the category that most closely matches the jobs you plan to do. There's no wrong answer here.
Stripe asks:
"Describe what you sell or provide"
Enter: "Local home and yard services — snow clearing, lawn care, cleaning, errands, and more through the Neighbour NL platform."
This is just a short description of your work. Copy and paste the example above if you're unsure.
Stripe asks:
"What is your business website?"
Enter: neighbournl.ca
You don't have your own website — that's fine. Enter the Neighbour NL platform address. This is the site you work through.
Stripe asks:
"What is your SIN (Social Insurance Number)?"
Enter your 9-digit SIN.
Stripe requires this to verify your identity for Canadian payouts. It is stored securely by Stripe and is not shared with Neighbour NL.
Stripe asks:
"Add a bank account or debit card"
Add your Canadian bank account for standard payouts, or a Visa Debit / Mastercard Debit card for instant payouts.
A bank account alone will get you paid in 2–5 business days. Adding a debit card unlocks instant payouts — usually within minutes.
Stripe is a separate company from Neighbour NL
Stripe is a secure payment platform used by millions of businesses worldwide. Your banking and identity information is stored by Stripe — not by Neighbour NL. If you have trouble with the Stripe form, you can email us and we'll help walk you through it.

How much does Neighbour NL take?
Neighbour NL charges a commission on completed jobs to support secure payments, platform maintenance, customer support, and ongoing improvements. In return, you get access to local job opportunities, secure payments, and the flexibility to choose when and where you work. Tips are always 100% yours — no commission is taken on tips. The commission rate and full details are outlined in the Worker Agreement.
When do I get paid?
After the 24-hour review period ends with no dispute. With a debit card connected in Stripe Express, funds arrive within minutes. Without one, it's 2–5 business days via bank transfer.
What if a customer disputes my job?
The admin team reviews the dispute and looks at your completion photos, job description, and any messages. This is why uploading clear completion photos is important.
Can I work multiple service categories?
Yes — you can register for as many categories as you like. Jobs from all your categories will appear in your Available Jobs tab.
I'm under 18. Can I still work?
Yes, workers 16 and older can register. Your parent or guardian will need to complete the Stripe onboarding and their account receives the payouts (Stripe requires account holders to be 18+). Teen accounts also require admin approval before you can claim jobs.
What if I can't complete a job I claimed?
Contact the customer as soon as possible. If you need to cancel, reach out to the admin team via the Report an Issue page. Repeated cancellations may affect your standing on the platform.
Do I need any special equipment or qualifications?
It depends on the service. Snow clearing and lawn care require your own equipment. No formal certifications are required for any category.
Stripe is asking for a "business website" — what do I enter?
Enter neighbournl.ca. That's the platform you work through. You don't need your own website.
Stripe is asking what kind of business I have — I'm just a person doing jobs.
Select "Individual" or "Sole proprietor." You are not a company — Stripe just needs to categorize you. Individual is exactly right for someone doing local jobs on their own.
I'm stuck on the Stripe form. What do I do?
Check the "What to enter on Stripe" guide above — it walks through every question Stripe asks. If you're still stuck, use the Report an Issue page and we'll help you through it.
Always communicate through the platform, meet customers in visible locations for first-time jobs, and trust your instincts. If something feels off, you can decline or cancel a job. Read our full Safety Guidelines for more.
